In this article, we are going
to take a look at the process of organic search engine
optimization for beginners, how to get permanent
placement on the result pages of major search providers
like Google, and other little-known SEO basics that
everyone should understand and practice.
First, let's cover the fundamentals. Over 92% of all
internet traffic is driven by major search engines.
These search engines include Google, Yahoo, and MSN
Live Search - just to name a few.
Being listed or
not will be the difference between life and death
for your website - especially if you are offering
goods or services for sale. You could have one of the
best looking websites on the internet, but you wouldn't
get even one customer if potential buyers can't find
you on the search engine they use!

three step process ...
Step 1: Keyword Optimization
To get started, the first step in our crash course
for for the SEO beginners is keyword optimization. A keyword or
keyword phrase is simply a word or group of words
that very accurately relate to the product, service,
or topic of your website. For example if you sold
wooden toys on your site, a good keyword phrase
might be something like "custom wooden toys" or
"buy wooden toys overnight".
Each page of your website can have different keyword
phrases, depending on the content of that individual
web page. However, the most important page to optimize
is your home page because it will be the first page
the search engine spiders
(or "bots") see when they visit your site to index
it. The relevance of your keywords to the page
content, their placement throughout the page, and a variety of other
factors will help each search engine's bot determine where
your website will appear on their search listings.
Most
search engine bots these days use algorithms to
automatically inspect your site and instantly rank
it. Odds are, if your site is not keyword optimized
it will place very low - if at all. In short,
without keyword optimization even if you do get
listed your site may be buried many pages deep in
the search results where potential customers
still cannot find you.

spiders can be a very tricky and time consuming

even one website URL to just a few search engines.
First you have to know which search engines to
submit to (aside from the obvious), then how to
submit to each, keeping in mind their individual
guidelines, and THEN you have to keep track of each
of these submissions. Now try doing this
on a regular basis! This can be an extremely
difficult task for
even an experienced webmaster - not to mention
SEO beginners who maintain their websites during
their spare time!
Secondly, don't fall for scam sites that promise top search
engine placement services "overnight" or in "two weeks". These
websites
are run by unethical people capitalizing on your lack of SEO
basics! Luckily, I am going to tell you
exactly how these
companies scam hundreds of webmasters out of
thousands of dollars each and every day - try and
follow me here.
The first step in the scam is misleading
advertising. These web SEO marketing firms make claims
like "#1 Listings on Google and Yahoo! in 48 hours!"
or "Get Top 10 Results in 7 Days!". What they
actually do is charge the customer a flat fee - let's
say for argument's sake $200.
They then take a small
portion of the fee, say $30, and purchase cheap PPC
(pay per click) advertising using their own list of
keywords.
These PPC ads most often appear for non-competitive
keywords that do not accurately target your
customers. They use third-rate keywords to keep
their costs low and profits high. So in other words,
your ads will appear at
the top of the results but only in the sponsored
links area and only for slightly relevant keywords.
The
bottom line is that whatever traffic you do get will
be minimal and the only ones making money are the
guys you paid the $200! Once the money runs out
the ads disappear and guess who's asking for more
cash to put them back up? You got it - the web
marketing company who scammed you in the first
place! How do they get away with it? Again, it's all
in their Terms of Service that you
must agree to
before you sign up. They count on the fact that you
won't read the fine
print!
Now don't get me wrong, there certainly is a place
for PPC ads, I use them myself. But the reality is
that without free organic
placement in search
engines listings the long-term success of your
website will always be in jeopardy. PPC ads should
be used to supplement existing traffic and should
never be relied on
solely or considered to be an alternative to natural
listings. In fact, for the beginner webmaster on a
budget without PPC experience these ads can burn a
hole through your pocket very quickly!
Lastly, keep your eyes open for websites that offer
to submit your site to various search engines
one-time and say that there is never any need to
resubmit. To keep the major search engines aware of
changes to your site's content, including incoming
links and the addition of new pages,
your website
must be submitted on a
regular basis. Overall, website submission plays an
overall minor role in SEO for beginners but it should be
used consistently to keep search engines aware of
updates and changes to your websites content.
